Alex Gorin Feller, Osteopath in Borehamwood

Hi! I’m Alex

I’m a Registered Osteopath, and the founder of New Release Osteopathy. A graduate of the well respected College of Osteopaths, I practise both structural and cranial osteopathy at clinics in south Hertfordshire.

Osteopathy is about releasing your body’s inherent potential for self-repair and healing to ease restriction and manage pain.

It’s a system of diagnosis and treatment designed to help you adapt to change more easily, alleviate symptoms, and restore you to a state of natural balance and ease, relaxation and improved flexibility.

As an osteopath, I adopt a holistic approach, providing hands-on care to promote vitality, health and wellbeing. My goal is to release stress and tension resulting from impaired or compromised health, or dis-ease.

Alex Gorin Feller treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions

My training includes both cranial and structural osteopathy – safe, gentle, and non-invasive – to provide relief from a wide range of conditions and diagnoses, including:

Many people seek osteopathic care for issues that affect how easily and comfortably they can move. These may include chronic back pain (persistent lumbago), neck pain, sciatica (pain radiating down the sciatic nerve), frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), or joint discomfort in the hips, knees or pelvis, including sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction. I also regularly see patients with tendon and soft tissue injuries such as Achilles tendonitis, runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS)), golfer’s elbow, and tennis elbow (lateral and medial epicondylitis), as well as patients experiencing rotator cuff strains and "slipped disc” injuries. Joint inflammation, including bursitis and coccydynia (‘tailbone’ pain), as well as plantar fasciitis (heel pain from tissue inflammation), can also benefit from gentle, hands-on treatment. My approach involves identifying where tension, restriction, or poor movement patterns may be contributing to pain, and using safe, non-invasive techniques to help restore ease and mobility. Treatment is designed to relieve tension, support flexibility, and help restore more natural patterns of movement.

Nerve-related pain can often be persistent and frustrating, causing sensations like tingling, numbness, or sharp shooting discomfort. Common examples include sciatica (lumbar radiculopathy), carpal tunnel syndrome (median nerve compression), or nerve impingement from muscular tension in the neck or lower back. Sometimes referred to as a "trapped nerve", these conditions occur when pressure on a nerve causes irritation, leading to neurogenic pain and radicular symptoms, often resulting in muscle weakness, paraesthesia, or a sense of heaviness in the affected area. I also help patients with facial discomfort, jaw tension, or headaches linked to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and those experiencing tension headaches from the upper back and neck. By easing restriction and reducing nerve irritation, treatment can gently support the body’s capacity for self-repair.

Although osteopathy doesn’t treat circulatory or digestive conditions directly, many people find that supporting the musculoskeletal system can relieve some of the physical discomforts associated with them. Postural tension or reduced mobility may contribute to back pain that accompanies constipation, or feelings of pressure around the diaphragm that make digestion feel sluggish or uncomfortable. I sometimes work with people who experience bloating, abdominal tension, or musculoskeletal discomfort linked to conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or acid reflux – always with a focus on easing the musculoskeletal tension that may be contributing to how the condition feels day to day. Likewise, muscular tightness or joint restriction can play a role in symptoms such as cold hands and feet, fluid retention (oedema), or a sense of pressure in the limbs. The focus is on releasing areas of physical strain and helping the body adapt more comfortably to everyday demands.

Chronic pain can develop slowly over time, often becoming part of a person’s daily life before they fully realise how much it’s affecting them. I regularly work with people managing conditions such as tendonitis (tendon inflammation), bursitis (bursa irritation), and osteoarthritis (degenerative joint changes), where long-standing imbalances and movement habits may be contributing to ongoing discomfort. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, I look at how the body is adapting and where it might need support. Treatment focuses on relieving areas of muscular tension, improving circulation, and helping joints move more freely. Treatment aims to alleviate long-standing tension and restore a more balanced, sustainable way of moving.

Breathing can be affected by more than just the lungs. Muscular tension, postural imbalances, and restricted mobility in the ribcage or diaphragm can all lead to shallow or uncomfortable breathing which feels less natural and less free. I often work with people experiencing chest tightness, shortness of breath linked to stress, or discomfort around the ribs and upper back. Rib dysfunction may cause sharp pain when breathing or coughing, and diaphragm tension can limit full inhalation. Using gentle techniques to release surrounding tissues and improve thoracic mobility, treatment aims to ease restriction and support more natural breathing patterns. Gentle, hands-on work helps reduce strain around the ribs and diaphragm, making breathing feel more relaxed and natural.

Modern life places all sorts of demands on the body – from desk-based work and repetitive tasks to physical labour or long hours on your feet. Over time, these patterns can lead to postural strain, joint stiffness, muscular fatigue or tension – often felt in the neck, shoulders, mid-back, pelvis or lower back. Even without a clear injury, people may develop "'tech'" or "'text' neck" (cervicogenic postural strain), upper back tightness, or tension-type headaches from the cumulative effects of daily habits. I also support those managing repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) such as "mouse shoulder" (shoulder impingement), tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), or painful wrist tendons (de Quervain’s tenosynovitis), often linked to computer or tool use. Long periods of sitting or standing can contribute to pelvic imbalance or lower crossed syndrome, while lifting or carrying children may place extra load on the back and hips. I also work with people during and after pregnancy, when the body undergoes natural postural and structural changes. Treatment is always adapted to the person in front of me. Supporting the body to manage everyday strain can promote physical ease and encourage a steadier sense of wellbeing.
